Public Art Conference Set for Cedar Falls and Waterloo June 6-7
Artists and individuals from arts organizations, public arts commissions and municipal governments interested in learning more about starting and managing public art programs and projects are invited to meet and discuss public art issues and tour art collections in Cedar Falls and Waterloo at the Public Art/Iowa conference in June.
The conference kicks off at 4 p.m. June 6 at the University of Northern Iowa’s Kamerick Art Building, where conference participants will take a walking tour of the UNI public art collection and attend a lecture and opening of the Fossil Fools exhibition by Kristen Baumlier, an assistant professor of digital arts at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Fossil Fools examines American dependency on fossil fuels.
June 7, the conference moves to the Waterloo Center for the Arts where participants will learn about Cedar Falls and Waterloo public art programs followed by a bus tour of public art projects in Cedar Falls and Waterloo. The bus tour will also visit the Hearst Center for the Arts Sculpture Garden where participants will have lunch and share information about their own public art projects before returning to Waterloo for panel discussions and the opening of the Inside: Outside exhibit.
Registration is $25 per person, or $18 per person when two or more register together. Registrations will be accepted through May 31 by phone at 319-273-8641 or by contacting the Hearst Center for the Arts at 304 West Seerly Boulevard, Cedar Falls, IA 50613.
