Marion Principal Honored for Arts Advocacy
Robert
Hoyt, principal of Vernon Middle School in the Marion Community School District,
is the 2006 Iowa Fine Arts Administrator of the Year. The award is sponsored
by the Iowa Alliance for Arts Education and School Administrators of Iowa.
“Robert Hoyt demonstrates his commitment to the arts by including them in the school’s curriculum and through his outstanding support of the activities with his time and commitment to fundraising and encouragement of students and instructors to excel,” said Esther D’Agrosa, past chair of the IAAE. He is credited for supporting an expanded jazz band program, a show choir and annual fine arts night, as well as enthusiastic recognition of students for their achievements in these areas.
A May ceremony at the state capitol with Lt. Governor Sally Pederson will recognize Hoyt and six additional Administrators of the Year for their contributions to educational leadership in Iowa.
Colleagues nominated Hoyt for this award and a committee from the Iowa
Alliance for Arts Education selected him as the recipient. Criteria for
the arts award are set by the IAAE and the Kennedy Center in Washington,
D.C. Applications must demonstrate how the nominee’s leadership contributes
to the development of the arts in a school or district.
