Grant Writing Tips, Workshops & News

March Grant Writing Tip

If you’re planning to apply for an Iowa Arts Council grant, you now need to do so using the new eGRANT System.

With eGRANT, you can create, complete and submit Mini and Major grant applications online, with just a few items needing to be sent or delivered to the IAC office. The Iowa Arts Council has made an easy-to-follow tutorial that can be downloaded from the IAC home page, www.iowaartscouncil.org. eGRANT is already used by several other state arts agencies, where applicants have found the system extremely user-friendly. If you’ve shopped online, you’ll find the process familiar.

If you have any questions as you work with the eGRANT System, contact Staci Nevinski at Staci.Nevinski@iowa.gov.

Host a Grant Writing Workshop

As competition for grant dollars continues to increase, artists, educators, communities and organizations that seek funding support for arts-related activities can hear directly from Iowa Arts Council program managers what it takes to submit a successful application.

Grant Writing Workshops provide information on what review panels expect to see in grant proposals, how to develop powerful grant proposals, guidance on the IAC’s new eGRANT System and other changes to program guidelines.

The Iowa Arts Council is currently seeking organizations to serve as hosts for these workshops. If you have 8-10 organizations in your community or region willing to attend, Iowa Arts Council staff will schedule a workshop in your community or region.

To request a workshop in your area, visit www.iowaartscouncil.org/programs/workshops or e-mail Sarah.Ekstrand@iowa.gov.

Arts Midwest Opens Funding for Performing Artists/Ensembles

Organizations planning to present a professional performing artist or ensemble between July 1, 2006 and June 30, 2007 may be eligible for funding through Arts Midwest’s 2006-07 Performing Arts Fund.

The Performing Arts Fund supports touring in Arts Midwest’s nine states by regional, national and international performing artists and companies. It’s an easy-to-use source of support for presenters such as performing arts centers, arts councils or colleges and university. The Performing Arts Fund aims to bring top-quality performances and educational activities by dance troupes, musical ensembles, theatre companies and solo artists, while expanding the potential market and revenue opportunities for performing artists.

Funding for the program opened March 1 and applications will be considered on a first-come, first served basis until May 2 or until funds have been depleted.

For guidelines, eligibility requirements and application procedures, visit www.artsmidwest.org/programs/heartland_arts.asp.
