New Artists on IAC Teaching Roster

The Iowa Arts Council strives to provide quality arts education experiences in Iowa schools through the use of talented artists. Student interaction with artists provides an in-depth experience while giving students the environment to develop critical thinking skills, help build confidence and self-awareness, share ideas with others and be engaged in the creative process.

The artists represented on IAC’s Teaching Artists Roster have completed a peer panel review process that evaluates their artistic and instructional abilities and achievements as they relate to the Artists in Schools and Communities Residencies.

The following artists have recently been added to the Teaching Artists Roster:

John Jannenga - an illustrator from Oskaloosa Programs who works with students to produce a winning combination where participants learn and grow together. The traditional three R’s – reading, writing and arithmetic – are put into practice through the arts.

Michael Kimber - a solo violist from Iowa City who is also on the IAC’s Performing Artists Roster. Kimber believes personal contact with artists can give students fascinating insights into the creative process and the discipline and rewards involved in making art, bringing them to a deeper understanding and enjoyment of the arts and realizing and valuing the relationships between artistic activity and other human endeavors.

Bettie Jane Bibler - a storyteller from Granger whose residencies allow students to work with a variety of art forms and share in the joys of learning, creating and performing. The artist takes students on a journey of discovery as they learn about diverse cultures of the world, play a variety of ethnic folk instruments, engage in creative movement activities and learn folktales from lands far and near
