Marketing Workshop for Artists!
If you’re an artist looking for ideas on how to market yourself and your work, plan to attend the Iowa Arts Council and VSA arts of Iowa Marketing Workshop June 30 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the State Historical Building in Des Moines.
The workshop will feature peer presentations by Iowa artists Karin Stein and John Jannenga. Stein has been a stage performer since her teen years, has recorded 11 albums and regularly presents guest lectures at colleges and universities throughout the United States. Stein will share her own successes and strategies as an artist. Jannenga, a visual artist has had work displayed at the Iowa State Fair and participates in numerous art fairs. He will discuss what has worked and what hasn’t throughout his career.
Chris Osgood, Artist Services Manager for Springboard for the Arts, will
work with artists and self employed creative people to determine the primary
audience for their work and developing marketing strategies accordingly.
The presenters will discuss constructive ways to deal with rejection in
the market setting. Participants will also learn documentation techniques
and effective use of time, energy and promotional materials, including Web
sites. Artists are encouraged to bring promotional materials for review
and samples of their work to share with other artists.
For those interested, John Jannenga will present a pre-workshop demonstration/discussion
of proper framing practices for exhibit and gallery display from noon to
1 p.m. Participants may bring their own lunch for this special presentation.
