Worth a Look...
Artists Marketing Workshop a Success
Thirty-six Iowa artists spent the afternoon of June 30 sharing ideas on
marketing themselves and their work. The workshop, sponsored by the Iowa
Arts Council, let participants bounce ideas off each other on pricing their
work and their own marketing successes.
Chris Osgood from Springboard for the Arts helped lead the workshop. Springboard for the Arts is based in St. Paul, Minn. and works to connect artists with the skills, contact information and services they need to make a living. John Jannenga, a VSA Arts artist, and Karin Stein from the performing group Calle Sur were also invited speakers.
Based on the success of the workshop, the Iowa Arts Council is seeking ideas on future workshop topics. If you have an idea or suggestion, please contact Sarah Ekstrand at Sarah.Ekstrand@iowa.gov.
Independent Commission Seeks Input on Arts Education Policy
www.nclbcommission.org
Arts education advocates can inform Congress about No Child Left Behind
(NCLB) and the importance of the arts in every child’s education.
The Aspen Institute Commission on No Child Left Behind is accepting comments
through an online portal on their Web site. This bipartisan commission will
make formal recommendations to Congress in early 2007. As such, this is
a key opportunity for teachers, parents and community members to offer constructive
feedback on the importance of the arts in any kind of education legislation,
and specifically NCLB.
