Fans
of the popular Iowa Public Radio series Iowa Roots are invited to access
a newly revamped Web site providing further information on the featured artists.
Now in its third season, Iowa Roots is a weekly radio series featuring
music, stories and talks with traditional artists from a variety of ethnic, geographic,
occupational and religious groups found in Iowa. Fans can enjoy and learn more
about their favorite segments on the Iowa
Roots site, which provides access to interview transcripts, artist biographies,
photographs,
audio and video, as well as links to other traditional arts programs and radio
Web sites.
Sponsored by the Iowa Arts Council and WOI Radio Group, Iowa Roots can be heard during National Public Radio’s Morning Edition on WOI (AM 640 and 90.1 FM) on Fridays at 7:35 a.m., during Midday and at various times on other public radio stations around Iowa and along its borders.
The
series explores the voices of people who carry on a variety of cultural traditions
— focusing on the arts, skills and knowledge that make Iowans who they are
— and is based on several years of fieldwork by the Iowa Arts Council’s
Folklife staff.
Traditional artists documented for the current series are:
• Zulfeta Rizvic, Bosnian folk dance teacher
• Tim Britton, Uillean pipe maker and player
•
Dual Gony, Nuer community scholar
