Iowa Arts Jam
Arts
and culture will have a big presence at the Iowa State Fair once again with
the 2006 Iowa Arts Jam representing the best of Iowa’s arts. This
year’s Fair will be held Aug. 10-20.
The Iowa Arts Jam schedule is:
• Cultural Center Courtyard Stage Performing Artist Showcase,
daily from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Features a different performing artist
or group each day.
• Art Under the Tent, daily from 11 a.m.
to 7 p.m. Located just outside the Cultural Center, Art Under the Tent
includes artists who are presenting and/or selling their works. Artists
will also be giving four daily two-hour demonstrations.
• Fiesta Latina Night, Sunday, Aug. 13, 5 p.m. to
10 p.m. on the Bill Riley Stage. Features headliner act ochOsol with the
Cordao de Ouro-Capoeira Dance Group and Sergio Correa’s Latin Rhythmz.
The Iowa Arts Jam participating visual artists are: Rebecca Sexauer, Arthur Thomas, John Jennenga, VSA arts of Iowa (several artists represented), James Reed, Christine Mullane, Karen Heuton, Jo Myers-Walker, Shawn Palek, Cathy Soutter, C.J. “Chief” DeAngelo and Van Holmgren.
The Cultural Center Courtyard Stage will feature:

Aug. 13: Heritage Youth Productions Superstars
Aug. 14: Matt Woods
Aug. 15: CJC (Community Jazz Center) All Stars

Aug. 17: Octangle
Aug. 18: Janey Hooper and Jorgen Briggs
Aug. 19: Rumor Has It
Aug. 20: Banjoy
“Every year we welcome the opportunity to expose fairgoers from near
and far to the riches of Iowa’s visual and performing artists,”
said Frank Strong, who helps book Iowa Arts Jam acts and is a member of
the Backwater Blues Band. “As the premier event in the state, the
Iowa State Fair draws more people than any other event making it an excellent
venue for artists of all levels to gain exposure.”
The Iowa Arts Jam is sponsored in part by the Iowa Arts Council, the Heritage
Art Gallery, Artscene magazine and the Central Iowa Blues Society.
