Major Grant Review Panelists Meet April 17-19
Twelve grant review panelists will convene in mid-April to discuss and determine award recommendations of the Iowa Arts Council’s major grants. Major grants will be awarded in seven categories: Arts in Education, Artists in Schools and Communities Residencies, Artists, Folk and Traditional Arts, Organizations, Public Art and Conferences, Workshops and Forums. These grants up to $10,000 are awarded based on artistic excellence, service to Iowans and planning and implementation.
Each of four sub-panels will be given approximately 20 grants to review. The sub-panels will discuss and rank applications and make funding recommendations according to IAC’s grant criteria. At the end of the process, the full panel will convene to review recommendations and make final decisions based on available funding. The recommendations then go to the Department of Cultural Affairs Director Anita Walker for final approval.
Grant review panelists come both from Iowa and from neighboring states.
“We like to use some out-of-state panelists because they provide a fresh perspective on the proposed projects, and bring a good combination of experience and impartiality to our Iowa applications,” said Staci Nevinski, grant review panel coordinator.
April review panelists are as follows:
Liz Shea-McCoy, Lincoln, NE
Steven Herrnstadt, Ames
Bethany Larson, Storm Lake
Anne Alston, Omaha, NE
Dave Moore, Iowa City
Karen Godecke, Cedar Rapids
Jack Becker, St. Paul, MN
