U.S. Poet Laureate to Visit Perry
U.S.
Poet Laureate and Iowa native Ted Kooser will be in Perry September
15 for a special workshop and lecture at the Hotel Pattee. Writing
with Ted Kooser will be held at 2 p.m. and costs $10. Pre-registration is required
by calling 515-465-2518. A reception with Ted Kooser will be
held at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $15 and reservations are requested. A free lecture
and readings by Kooser will be held following the reception at 7:30 p.m.
Kooser was born in Ames and attended Iowa State University and the University of Nebraska. He is the author of 10 collections of poetry, including the 2005 Pulitzer Prize winning Delights & Shadows. He is a visiting professor in the English department of the University of Nebraska and lives on an acreage near Garland, Neb.
The event is sponsored by Hometown Perry, Iowa, a nonprofit organization working to study, understand, communicate and celebrate the vital contribution small towns have made to American life as seen through the immigrant experience in Perry. For more information on this event, call 515-465-2518.
