The Business of Fine Art:
September 30-October 1
The
Iowa Cultural Coalition will present The Business of Fine Art,
a 2-day conference on business fundamentals for visual, musical and performing
artists Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Des Moines Area Community College Urban
Campus, 1100 7th St. The conference is designed to improve the entrepreneurial
skills of Iowa’s artists and give them an opportunity to network and share
information.
The conference will cover topics such as career planning, financial management, marketing and professional presentation, exhibition and performance planning, insurance,and retirement planning.
Presenters include Caroll Michels, artist and author of How to Survive and Prosper as an Artist, and Chris Osgood from Springboard for the Arts, a management and consulting service for artists.
Artwork and performances by conference attendees will be showcased at an evening reception Friday, Sept. 30. Registration deadline for attendees to be included in the showcase is Sept. 16; all other attendees must register by Sept. 27. The showcase reception will be at the Des Moines Project Gallery, 1408 Locust St. Cost for the conference is $100 for ICC members and $135 for nonmembers.
