Walker Elected to National Assembly of State Arts Agencies Board of Directors

Anita Walker, Director, Iowa Department of Cultural AffairsAnita Walker, director of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, was elected to the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) board of directors Sept. 10 during the nonprofit arts organization’s annual meeting in Boise, Idaho.

Located in Washington, D.C., NASAA is the membership organization that unites, represents and serves the nation's state and jurisdictional arts agencies. Each of the 56 states and jurisdictions has created an agency to support excellence in and access to the arts.

“NASAA is a wonderful organization, and I’m very pleased to have this opportunity to advance and promote the arts in a meaningful way throughout the United States,” Walker said. “NASAA empowers state arts agencies through strategic assistance that fosters leadership, enhances planning and decision making, and increases resources. I am very proud to represent Iowa and the interests of artists and art lovers across the country.”

NASAA works at the national, state and local levels to ensure that every individual has opportunities to participate in the artistic experience; the arts play a valued role in the educational, economic and cultural well-being of our communities; the nation’s artists and arts organizations are key partners in providing public benefits; and the nation’s diversity is recognized and celebrated through the arts.

Walker’s election to the board came during NASAA’s 2005 annual meeting, which brought together representatives from the nation’s 56 state and jurisdictional arts agencies for four days of intensive learning.
