Iowa Cultural Organizations Receive NEA Grants

More than 800 grants totaling more than $61 million dollars have been awarded to national, regional, state, and local arts organizations across the country by the National Endowment for the Arts.

This spring round also includes the first grants to be awarded in the National Endowment for the Arts' American Masterpieces program. Eleven grants totaling more than $1.1 million will support visual arts touring of exhibitions.

To support Pied Piper, interactive chamber ensemble music concerts for children. Performed at a public library, the 32 concerts will be performed by ensembles of strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion for preschool-age children and special elementary populations.

To support OPERA Iowa, an educational program that will include a tour to rural Midwestern schools. Featuring John Davies' Three Little Pigs, the program will offer more than 90 opera performances and 360 classroom workshops.

To support educational outreach and touring performances, a consortium project with Iowa Communications Network. Touring performances by three ensembles of the orchestra will be recorded and broadcast throughout central and eastern Iowa.

Field/Discipline:Presenting
To support community residencies and performances designed to engage Gen-Xers (ages 25-35) in the arts. The activities will take place in the communities of Spencer, Perry, Marshalltown, and Iowa City, Iowa.
