Iowa
artists have been busy the past few months organizing and posting their works
for sale on www.buyiowaart.com.
The site, launched June 1 by the Iowa Arts Council, allows Iowa artists and artists’ agents to sell their work—anything from music (CDs) to musings (writing).
The site provides Iowa artists a global audience, expanding the potential for sales to those who might not have the opportunity available to them elsewhere. With increasing use of the Internet by artists—75 percent use it for professional purposes—buyiowaart.com ranks high as a tool for artists to market their work.
For the initial launch, a panel of advisors recommended the featured artists based on the quality of their work.
Anyone interested in learning more about selling work on buyiowaart.com should contact Sarah Ekstrand at 515.281.4657 or Sarah.Ekstrand@iowa.gov.
Iowa Great Places Update
Nearly
one thousand enthusiastic Iowans participated in 10 regional forums across the
state in May and June to learn about the Iowa Great Places initiative. Great Places
is an initiative of the Vilsack-Pederson Administration designed to inspire bold
thinking, creativity and innovation and help cultivate the authentic and unique
qualities that make Iowa communities, neighborhoods, districts and regions such
special places to live, work, play and raise a family. The initiative is also
designed to demystify state government, providing state resources and programs
through a one-stop shop.
At the forums, participants shared their ideas about great places in Iowa and their thoughts about what their own places need to become great. Places interested in being considered one of the pilot Great Places in the “learning laboratory” first year of the initiative will submit letters of invitation to the state by July 1. The Great Places Advisory Board will select three pilot Great Places by October.
