DOWNTOWN: A Changing Marketplace is Summit Theme

The Iowa Downtown Resource Center will hold the 19th Annual Downtown Summit in Clinton Aug. 23-24. All Iowa communities are invited to attend.

The Summit, sponsored by the Iowa Department of Economic Development and the Federal Home Loan Bank, offers interesting and informative presentations by nationally-recognized experts and local practitioners about rural and urban communities' efforts in revitalizing their city centers.

DOWNTOWN: A Changing Marketplace will feature plenary and breakout sessions in four educational tracks—Understanding the Market; Developing Downtown Real Estate—Housing/Commercial; Financing Change; and Walking Tours—to provide a variety of information on downtown revitalization.

The opening session, Downtown's Competitive Edge, will be presented by Jay Juergensen, president and owner, Juergensen & Associates, Detroit, Michigan. Donovan Rypkema, principal, Place Economics, Washington, D.C., will discuss Community Initiated Development during the luncheon presentation.

Nine additional sessions will be offered at the Summit and will feature topics including understanding affordable housing, business succession planning, revolving loan funds, tax credits, housing project examples, investing in downtown, downtown real estate development, enhancing Iowa's philanthropy and Main Street Iowa and the Iowa Downtown Resource Center. Three walking tours will offer opportunities to explore riverfront development, upper floor housing and architecture.

Registrations received by Aug. 15 are $100 per person; after Aug. 15 and on-site fees are $125 per person. An $85 per person group fee is available for communities registering three or more people at the same time before Aug. 15. The fee includes luncheon and reception on Aug. 23 and breakfast on Aug. 24.
