The Artist's Sketch: Mark Petrick

These questions originally came from a French series, "Bouillon de Culture" hosted by Bernard Pivot. They're better known as the questions James Lipton asks every guest at the end of "Inside the Actor's Studio," and have been adapted for this site.

1. What is your favorite word?
Yes.

2. What is your least favorite word?
Can't.

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Laughter (especially Elizabeth's).

4. What turns you off?
Judgment, and non-acceptance of what is.

5. What sound or noise do you love?
The soft, wet sound of a deep, long kiss.

6. What sound or noise do you hate?
A car horn surprising me from behind.

7. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Tailor.

8. What profession would you not like to do?
Chief financial officer of a large American corporation that builds weapons.

9. Who's the biggest influence on your life?
Marcel Duchamp, our guiding light in all things ironic, intelligent and alchemical.

Mark Paul Petrick of Fairfield specializes in black and white photography, media arts/video and digital photography. His work has been exhibited in such prestigious institutions as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Chicago Art Institute, the Walker Arts Center and the Des Moines Art Center among others.
