Publicize Your Iowa Arts Council Grant
So you got some money from the Iowa Arts Council, and now you want to let the world know about it, right?
Everybody loves publicity, especially when it’s good publicity. The Iowa Arts Council requests that grant recipients acknowledge Iowa Arts Council funding in any type of media coverage, brochures, posters, other printed material and the like. Your programs show all residents of Iowa the economic, educational and cultural impact of arts funding.
What comes to the IAC, comes to you. Nearly 70 percent of the IAC budget comes from the Iowa legislature; more than 30 percent comes from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
Promote your grant and help us help you! Everyone benefits!
some simple steps:
Contact State Officials
It’s important to thank your state representatives and senators—they
are responsible for appropriating funds to the Iowa Arts Council. Meet with them
to talk about the importance of cultural funding, personally invite them to your
event and give them an opportunity to speak. Add them to your mailing lists. Write
a brief letter thanking them for this year’s IAC appropriation and for your
grant. Describe how your project affects your community. You can find your legislators
at www.legis.state.ia.us.
Use the Logo
You can credit the Iowa Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts by
using the IAC and NEA logos, which can be accessed at in the Grantee
Resources section of our site. The logos should be used in printed materials:
newsletters, catalogs, print advertising, brochures, programs, postcard announcements,
invitations, exhibition signage, flyers, posters, educational materials and news
releases. If you are promoting your event or project on your Web site, the Iowa
Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts logos should also accompany
that information.
Put it in Writing
Statements crediting IAC and NEA can read:
“Funding for (Project, Event) is provided by the Iowa Arts Council, a division
of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the
Arts.”
“Support for this (Project, Event) has been provided by the Iowa Arts Council,
a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment
for the Arts.”
“This (Project, Event) is supported, in part, by the Iowa Arts Council,
a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment
for the Arts.”
Say it
When written or logo credit isn’t applicable, oral credit can be given before
events or performances, thanking IAC and NEA for the project grant. If you have
a news media interview, please acknowledge the support you received from IAC and
NEA.
And then…
Here are suggestions of other ways you can help inform people about your grant
and the support IAC has given you:
• Write an article for your newsletter and/or local newspaper about the
importance of IAC support and the difference it makes to your organization.
• Invite the IAC executive director, a staff member or a board member to
speak at one of your events.
• Create a lobby display or some other public exhibit for your library,
school or organization.
• Send a special letter home to parents from the principal explaining the
work of the IAC and the programs supported in your school.
• Hang a “Thank You Iowa Arts Council and National Endowment for the
Arts” banner.
• Link to us from your Web site: http://www.iowaartscouncil.org.
