The IAC Wants Your Images
The IAC is seeking high-quality photographs for marketing and promotional purposes. We are currently seeking images that show audience and/or student participation in arts-related events and activities. We also encourage grant recipients to submit images of their grant projects/events. Examples include images you have included in your programs, annual reports, posters, flyers, marketing pieces, website, etc. Before using any image, a member of our public relations staff will contact you. In return, your image/event will be credited in the piece in which it is used.
To submit, please send 300-dpi TIF, JPG, EPS images (no less than 4" x 5" print size), slides or photos along with a brief description of the artist, work, or event. If an IAC grant supported the event/work, tell us which program funded it (e.g., Big Yellow School Bus, Artist Project Grant, etc.). List the date in which the event took place and make sure to list the photographer as well. For art work, list the media and dimensions. For all submissions, provide full contact information so that we may give proper credit. Please note: Images that focus on a child/children must be accompanied by a letter of permission from the parent(s) stating their approval to use the photo.
Send electronic materials and image/event information to: Jill.Hermann@iowa.gov. Send slides or photos (newspaper images and photocopies are not accepted) with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Jill Hermann, Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, 600 E. Locust, Des Moines, IA 50319. For more information contact Jill at Jill.Hermann@iowa.gov or 515.281.8352.
New Deadline for Performing Artists Roster
The Iowa Arts Council’s Performing Artists Roster guidelines and application forms will be available on the IAC Web site beginning May 1. Deadline for applications is Aug. 31, 2005. The Performing Artists Roster contains information about performing individuals and groups. Artists featured in the roster are selected through a review process which evaluates the artistic quality of the performance, ability to work with sponsors, and the quality of the event’s outreach activities. For more information, contact Sarah Ekstrand at 515.2814657 or Sarah.Ekstrand@iowa.gov.
Prairie Aurora Set to Glow Again
Internationally-known artist Cork Marcheschi will return to Iowa this spring to rebuild the Prairie Aurora outdoor light sculpture at the State Historical Building.
Erected when the building was built in 1987, Prairie Aurora has been
dark since structural problems plagued the sculpture’s glass tower shortly
after it was installed. Marcheschi, who now lives in San Francisco, Calif., will
be in Des Moines to help with installation of a new lighting element, which is
planned to be unveiled during Winefest, June 10-11. He was commissioned for the
work by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs/General Services, and has a number
of other commissioned works across the U.S., Canada and Europe. The artist is
known for his use of neon and glass, something he calls, “electrically produced
energy.”
