The Artist's Sketch: Floyd Pearce

These questions originally came from a French series, "Bouillon de Culture" hosted by Bernard Pivot. They're better known as the questions that James Lipton asks every guest at the end of "Inside the Actor's Studio" and have been adapted for Iowa Arts Council artists.

1. What is your favorite word?

Love

2. What is your least favorite word?

Kill

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?

Nature, companionship, good music, good literature

4. What turns you off?

Advertising

5. What sound or noise do you love?

Music: Mozart's passion and Ravel's texture.

6. What sound or noise do you hate?

Alarm clocks

7. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

Movie maker

8. What profession would you not like to do?

Mortician

9. Who's the biggest influence on your life?

My grandfather. He believed that, with careful planning, anyone can do anything. As a young man, Albert Schweitzer was my ideal.

 

Floyd Pearce is in the Iowa Arts Council's Teaching Artists Roster. He owns his own press, Pterodactyl Press, in Cumberland, and is disciplined in the book arts.
