Good Marketing Supports Arts Advocacy
One important way to set the stage for effective arts advocacy is to simply ensure
that the public knows about the great arts and culture events that are happening
around them. It’s called marketing. The Iowa365 Cultural Opportunity Network
offers a new means for Iowa communities to get the word out through the world
wide web.
Iowa365 allows everyone who wants the opportunity to promote their event or to
tell their story, and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Brad Parks of Dubuque, founder of Iowa365, said it was his role as a Vision Iowa board member that got the ball rolling with the culturally comprehensive Iowa365 Web site.
“In my Vision Iowa travels I made hundreds of contacts with people excited
about Iowa’s future,” Parks said. “With their participation,
Iowa365 is a growing movement to empower all Iowan’s to take action to shape
that future in their local communities. In the end we believe the best way to
attract young people to Iowa is to connect them to other young people who are
already leading the way.”
What started out as a Web site focusing solely on cultural events in Dubuque (www.dubuque365.com) has quickly grown to encompass many other Iowa communities: Sioux City, Des Moines, Ames, Iowa City, even Red Oak and Oskaloosa. Each site has its own unique day-by-day cultural activities, opportunities, announcements and news. And it’s completely free to use.
