You won’t want to miss this year’s Cultural Advocacy Day at the Capitol.
The Iowa Cultural Coalition is again hosting the event in conjunction with the fine folks of “Taste of Iowa,” which means only one thing: Free Food!
Cultural Advocacy Day will begin the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the State Historical Building, 600 E. Locust, Des Moines.
Participants will be briefed on the day and given a menu of key issues they can choose to talk about with their legislator.
Following the short presentation, participants will gather for a short, but impressive, march to the Capitol building. They will then have an opportunity to speak with legislators about the impact of culture in their communities and advocate for change.
“Cultural Advocacy Day is now a tradition that both advocates and legislators look forward to because it is a chance for democracy to thrive in Iowa,” said Cynthia Nieb with the Iowa Cultural Coalition.
The schedule is as follows:
9 a.m.: Advocates gathering at State Historical Building
9:15 a.m.: Advocacy training for adults and youth
9:45 a.m.: March to the Capitol
10 a.m.: Advocates begin meetings with legislators
11 a.m.: Program begins; entertainment by the Cedar Rapids Symphony Suzuki Players,
and Bob & Kristi Black.
Don’t forget to wear lime green or purple and bring signs or banners of
support. Our goal is to be as visible as possible!
