DCA announces Chris Kramer as new Deputy Director

Kramer joins DCA after 12 years at Science Center of Iowa

(DES MOINES) – The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs today announced Chris Kramer has been named Deputy Director.

“We are very pleased to have Chris joining us as Deputy Director,” DCA Director Mary Cownie stated. “Her extensive background and experience will be strong assets as we continue our work to preserve Iowa history and support cultural arts across the state.”

Ms. Kramer had been a member of the senior management team as Vice President of Development for the Science Center of Iowa since 2000, and served as vice president of development, communications and government relations since 2008.

During her tenure with SCI, Kramer served on the core project team to create the new downtown Des Moines facility; managed the venue’s $62 million capital campaign, the largest museum capital campaign ever undertaken in Iowa; and developed diverse and sustainable revenue sources for the museum’s educational programs and exhibits.

She has experience in leadership roles on the Association of Science Technology Center’s international Development Committee and national Public Policy Committee, along with the Greater Des Moines Partnership Government Policy Committee, working on local, state and federal legislative initiatives and policy.

Kramer resides in Clive with her husband, Dan, and three children, Alex, Jack and Lucy.
