IAC selects three arts scholarship recipients

Boone, West Des Moines, Wilton students receive award

(DES MOINES, Iowa) — The Iowa Arts Council has selected three Iowa high school students from Boone, West Des Moines and Wilton to receive the 2009 Iowa Scholarship for the Arts.

The award is given to Iowa residents who will graduate from an Iowa high school during the 2008-2009 academic year and have proven artistic ability in dance, literature (creative writing), music, theater, traditional arts or visual arts.

Each recipient will receive $1,000 toward his or her college tuition and related expenses as a full-time undergraduate at a fully-accredited Iowa college or university with a major in one or more of the disciplines considered for the award.

This year’s recipients are:

Musfeldt plans to attend Iowa State University to major in Music Theory and Composition. Accomplished with the violin, piano and vocal technique, Musfeldt knows his future will be full of music.

“I’ve always had a passion for performing and I’m looking forward to being exposed to a higher, more professional level of music,” he said.

Dingeman will attend Drake University in the fall to major in Vocal Performance. At an early age, Dingeman’s selection for the Des Moines Children’s Choir opened doors for him to perform all over the country, including Carnegie Hall.

“I have a dream that many others have,” he said. “But the difference between the others and me is that I am going for it.”

Telsrow plans to attend the University of Iowa to major in Tuba Performance and English. He is also an accomplished guitarist, often lending himself to teaching others and performing for charity events.

“I welcome the challenges that lie ahead, and welcome those unexpected opportunities that may arise, even when they take me in a direction I never expected,” Telsrow said.
