Recent Changes to IAC Grant Processes
As a result of intensive planning by staff and IAC constituents, several important changes have been made to the IAC grants process, beginning in August 2005.
Here is an overview:
1. Major Grants and Mini Grants: The larger grants ($1,500 to $10,000) formerly named Project Grants will now be called Major Grants—and Project Mini Grants will just be Mini Grants.
The seven categories for both remain the same:
- Artists
- Artists in Schools & Communities Residencies
- Arts in Education
- Conferences, Workshops & Forums
- Folk & Traditional Arts
- Organizations
- Public Art
2. Simplified Mini Grant Application: The Mini Grant application has been simplified to include less budget information, shorter narrative, and fewer required support materials.
3. Earlier Notification: Major Grants applicants will be notified in four weeks instead of 10-12 weeks.
- April 1 deadline - Funded applications posted on IAC Web site and written notifications mailed to all applicants by May 1.
- October 1 deadline – Funded applications posted on IAC Web site and written notifications mailed to all applicants by November 1
4. Simplified Project Dates: Beginning and ending dates for Major Grants have been reduced to two options.
- April 1 deadline: Projects begin July 1 and end June 30 of the following year.
- October 1 deadline: Projects begin January 1 and end June 30.
5. One Final Report Due Date: All Final Reports will be
due on the same day—July 30.
Since funded activities may end sooner than July 30, submitting the Final Report
sooner is encouraged.
6. Checks in the Mail Sooner: All grant checks will be mailed at the same time to Major Grant recipients.
- April 1 Major Grants deadline: Checks mailed July 1-15.
- October 1 Major Grants deadline: Checks mailed January 1-15.
7. Streamlined Review Process: Total time for review of Major Grant applications reduced from 6 weeks to 3 days.
- Panelists will gather for a 3-day panel retreat. All applications will be read and reviewed during the retreat. Open public meetings for formal discussion and panel recommendations will occur on day 3.
- Three 3-member sub panels will replace the 5-member multi-discipline panel. Applications from the seven funding categories will be assigned to the appropriate sub-panel (Artists, Arts in Education, Organizations).
- IAC executive director will approve grants within 1-3 days of the panel retreat.
