Application Review, Approval & Notification Process

For Major Grants and Mini Grants

including Artist Major Grants and Mini Grants, Artists in Schools and Communities Major Grants and Mini Grants, Arts in Education Major Grants and Mini Grants, Conference & Workshop Major Grants and Mini Grants, Folk & Traditional Arts Major Grants and Mini Grants, Organization Major Grants and Mini Grants, and Public Art Major Grants and Mini Grants.

Please note: IAC staff will not respond to questions until after the review and approval process is completed and applicants are notified by mail.

Major Grants

  1. Major Grants are reviewed at a Panel Review Retreat approximately 2-3 weeks after the deadline by peer-group panels of in-state and out-of-state individuals knowledgeable in the categories being reviewed.
  2. The panel scores each application on the degree to which it meets specific review criteria, described in Application Instructions and Form. After final panel scores are recorded, applications clearly connected to approved Iowa Great Places projects will receive a 10% increase in their composite score.
  3. The IAC director makes final award decisions.
  4. You will receive a notification letter regarding your application approximately 4-6 weeks after the application deadline.

Mini Grants

  1. Applications are reviewed within two weeks after the application deadline.
  2. A panel consisting of 2 IAC staff and one qualified non-staff panelist scores each application on the degree to which it meets specific review criteria, described in Application Instructions and Form. After final panel scores are recorded, applications clearly connected to approved Iowa Great Places projects will receive a 10% increase in their composite score.
  3. The IAC director makes final award decisions.
  4. You will receive a notification letter regarding your application approximately two weeks after the application deadline.

*NOTE:  If the IAC has reason to believe that an application was clearly submitted in the wrong category, we reserve the right to change the category in order to offer a more appropriate review of the application.
