Fiscal Year 2011 / Mini Grants: October

 

The Iowa Arts Council received18 eligible Mini grant applications for the October round. We received a total of $17,081 in requested funds. Of those, 8 were selected for funding, totaling $7,487. Out of a possible score of 40, the highest score of those selected for funding was 38.33 the lowest was 31.33

Lynne Rothrock, Cedar Rapids
Development of Lynne Rothrock's New Christmas Show, $1,000
Cabaret-style singer and performer Lynne Rothrock will use grant funding to support the development of her new Christmas show with special guest Tim Boyle. Performances are scheduled for Dec. 16-19, 2010 at ARA Gallery in Cedar Rapids.

Gayla Drake Paul, Cedar Rapids
Gayla Drake Paul: One More (Working Title), $1,000
Gayla Drake Paul will use IAC grant funding to produce a new CD of original songs performed by her and six other musicians.

City of Council Bluffs - First Night
First Night Council Bluffs 2011, $1,000
First Night Council Bluffs and Bloomer Elementary School will partner to hire Michael Fitzsimmons, Dancing Man Music, to perform his “Drums of the World” concert at the 2011 First Night event with students from the school participating. A week long residency with 81 4th grade students will be conducted prior to the event to prepare the students.

Hoover High School Band Department, Des Moines
Composer in Residence, $1,000
The Hoover High School band department and Meredith Middle School will conduct a five-day residency with renowned British composer Peter Meechan who will lead students in composition of their own music, give insight in to the compositional process, discuss careers in music and work individually with students. A public lecture and performance will also be given.

Synergy Jazz Foundation, Des Moines
Synergy Jazz Workshop/Concert Series, $1,000
Synergy Jazz Workshop/Concert Series will be supported in part with IAC grant funding. This four-day jazz workshop will be held at Hoover High School, culminating with a public concert.

Hannah Sanghee Park, Iowa City
Made in Iowa: Two Poetry Collections, $1,000
Poet Hannah Sanghee Park will finalize her first manuscript for publication and create new material for a second manuscript.

University of Iowa Arts Share Program, Iowa City
Patient Voice Project 2nd Anthology, $487
The University of Iowa Arts Share Program will use funds to publish the "Patient Voice Project (PVP) 2nd Anthology." The anthology will be a compilation of essays and poems written by PVP participants.

Ottumwa Civic Music Association, Ottumwa
Leon Williams Christmas Concert, $1,000
IAC funding supports the Ottumwa Civic Music Association presentation of the Leon Williams Christmas Concert at Indian Hills Community College.
