Fiscal Year 2011 / Mini Grants: April
The Iowa Arts Council received 27 eligible Mini grant applications for the April round We received a total of $24,907 in requested funds. Of those, 8 were selected for funding, totaling $7282 Out of a possible score of 40, the highest score of those selected for funding was 36 and the lowest was 32.67 With an additional $8600 there would have been 9 more applications that scored high enough to be funded.

Creation and Framing of Figure Drawings for Exhibit, $1,000
Nancy Briggs use IAC grant funds to create and frame 10 new works for an exhibit at the Flying Pig Gallery in Algoma, WI.
St Marks United Methodist Church, Iowa City
Pilot Project: Bilingual Music Classes in Iowa City’ $1,000
Saint Marks United Methodist Church will use IAC funding to support the "Pilot Project: Bilingual Music Classes in Iowa City". Artists Edgar East and Karin Stein of "Calle Sur" will be hired to teach small groups of Hispanic and non-Hispanic youth on Saturday mornings for two month.
Iowa State Fair, Des Moines
Strengthening Public Understanding of Visual Art, $1,000
The Iowa State Fair Authority will use IAC funding to document the jury process of the Fine Art Exhibition for the Iowa State Fair. The documentary will assist the artists and the exhibitors and the general public in understanding the aesthetic standards used in competitive art venues.
Bell Tower Productions, Dubuque
"Kids Take the Stage" Youth Theater Classes, $500
The Bell Tower Productions will use IAC grant funding to expand the costumes, make-up and prop collection for their "Kids Take the Stage" youth theater classes.
Cindy Gould, Ames
Iowa and India: The Intersecting Lives of Two Widows, $1,000
Visual artist, Cindy Gould will use IAC grant funding to work with Nita Thakore an artist from India to create a body of work that will focus on grief, resiliency and the transcendent capacity of art. Both artist are widows.
Jesse D Damazo, Iowa City
The Agony and Sweat of the Human Spirit Dissemination Grant, $934
IAC grant funding will allow film maker Jesse Damazo and collaborator Joe Bookman will attend the Cannes Film Festival to distribute and promote a short film titled: The Agony and Sweat of the Human Spirit Dissemination Grant.
John Domini, Des Moines
Research for Novel: "The Color Inside a Melon", $1,000
Author John Domini will use IAC grant funding for travel and expenses while he is in Italy to go from Naples to Puglia do research to complete his novel: "The Color Inside a Melon".
Lisa Ponton, Cedar Rapids
Professional Development: Leading Students toward a Passion for Excellence, $848
Teaching Artist Lisa Ponton will use IAC grant funding to attend professional development classes entitled: Leading Students toward a Passion for Excellence and Musicality" and "Child Development for the Suzuki Teacher" at the American Suzuki Institute in Stevens Point, WI.
