The Iowa Arts Council received 15 eligible Mini grant applications for the JULY round We received a total of$20,685 in requested funds. Of those, 6 were selected for funding, totaling $8,200 Out of a possible score of 44, the highest score of those selected for funding was 41.33 the lowest at 38.67

 

Angela Hayes, Iowa City
Travelers Dance in Community Spotlight

Funding will support Travelers Dance to perform at the Englert Civic Theatre as part of the Iowa City Press Citizen's Community Spotlight series. The program will include company repertory and new, original choreography performed to live music by Dave Moore, incorporating photographs by Sandy Dyas, with additional music by Bo Ramsey.

Edgar East, Waterloo
Marketing and Promotion of The Afro Latin Project

Grant funding will allow Edgar East to showcase the Afro Latin Project at two major fine-arts booking conferences: Arts Midwest in Columbus, Ohio, September 5-8, 2007; and the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP)in New York, NY, January 11-15, 2008.

Crossing Over, An Exhibition at the James & Meryl Hearst Center

Funding supports the framing and installation of art for an invited exhibition of Louise Kames' work at the James & Meryl Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls August 2007.

Danzas Folkloricas Argentinas -Research

Grant funding will support research to create essential components for Danzas Folkloricas Argentinas: a series of workshops on the rich dance traditions of Argentina to be taken to Iowa schools and community centers in 2008. Project director will compile choreography, music, costumes, videos, into booklets, cd's, dvd's and will train a few dancers for future demonstrations.

Sarah Zwick Tapley, Ames
Sarah Zwick-Tapley Presents: Maria Irene Fornes' "Mud"

This project will be a dramatic presentation of Cuban-American playwright Maria Irene Fornes' work, "Mud." With grant support from the Iowa Arts Council, the work will be produced and directed by Iowa State University Lecturer Sarah Zwick-Tapley on August 30 and 31. Appearing in the play will be Genya Coffey, Michael Rubke, and Brendan Dumphy.

Norbert Sarsfield, Iowa City
The Gilded Bats Recording Project

Grant Funding from the Iowa Arts Council will support the manufacture and release of a CD by the Gilded Bats, an Iowa City old-time stringband. Recording sessions are completed. Mastering, art work, manufacturing, and promotion will take place in August. This grant will be used to cover costs of manufacturing the cd.
