The Iowa Arts Council received 24 eligible Mini grant applications for the January round We received a total of$31,825 in requested funds. Of those, 6 were selected for funding, totaling $9000 Out of a possible score of 44, the highest score of those selected for funding was 39.33 the lowest at 37 .
Thresholds Arts Festival VII, Des Moines
Thresholds VII: Listen! Stories of Hope, Sounds of Change

Grant funding will support the collaboration of Thresholds VII with national and local artists for a Gala Multimedia Concert, using the arts to draw diverse communities together. Headliners are famed folk-blues artist Odetta, and Iowa folksinger/songwriter Susan Werner. Local artists include choruses, SCAVO and Dowling HS art students collaborating, actors, ethnic and religious storytellers, and multimedia.

Iowa Asian Art Project: Exploring Identity, Place and Culture

This grant will help to fund phase 1 of Iowa Asian Art Project which is to bring in internationally reowned artist Jon Cuyson from Jersey City to Des Moines on March 1-8, 2008 to work with selected Iowa Asian artists in an exploration of how identity, place and culture can inform and enrich the artists' creation and creativity.

Oh Canada! The Music of Canada!: A weekend Festival and Concert

"Oh Canada! The Music of Canada!" will be the third event of our 2007-2008 Season. Funding wil support a choral festival involving Guest Conductor Ken Fleet of London, Ontario; and the Valley High School Choir of West Des Moines. The Festival will commence with separate Thurs.and Friday choir clinics with Mr. Fleet, Sat. a.m. mass choir rehearsal; and Sunday afternoon public concert.

Grant funding will support Barefoot Ballroom, a series of workshops in social and concert dance, performance art, theatre and journaling - which is open to all Scattergood students to create dances for three public performances, short internet videos and blogs. This collaboration with ACExperiment meets 10 times monthly in West Branch and writes or edits online as needed, March to July 2008.

Grant funding will support the Sioux City Community School District to host OPERA IOWA on February 19-21, 2008. OPERA IOWA will present workshops and performances of the "The Billy Goats Gruff" for the third grade students of the Sioux City Community School District.

Jazz At The 'Brary-Caliente!

IAC Grant funding will help to provide a live jazz education program, with KCCK Radio producers and the UI Latin Jazz Ensemble, led by Jim Dreier (of the IAC Roster Artist Orquesta Alto Maiz) using live music, narration and visuals to explore the history, development and performance of Latin Jazz. The free program will be performed April 12 at the Iowa City Public Library and April 20 at the Cedar Rapids Public Library.
