Fiscal Year 2008 / Mini Grants: December
The Iowa Arts Council received 15 eligible Mini grant applications for the December round. We received a total of $20,242 in requested funds. Of those, 6 were selected for funding, totaling $8,700. Out of a possible score of 44, the highest score of those selected for funding was 39 the lowest at 33.33.
Judy Bales, Fairfield
Artist Web Site Update

With grant funds, Judy Bales will update and expand her existing website. She will photograph new projects and exhibitions and will hire graphic designer Matt Arant to design new pages for the site and update existing pages with these photos. This will enable her to promote her work more broadly and effectively.
Mount Ayr Elementary School, Mount Ayr
5-Day Storytelling Residency with Maureen Korte

Grant funding will allow Mount Ayr Elementary to hire Maureen Korte, a professional Iowa artist, to enhance student academic performance through the creative processes of writing and storytelling during a 5-day residency. She will present primary and intermediate grade concerts, interact with K-6 exposure groups, conduct teacher in-service, and work with core groups to perform for peers and community members.
Audrey Grieme, Des Moines
The Pursuit of Song: Vocal Arts Project

Funding will support "The Pursuit of Song", a Vocal Arts Project allowing Audrey Grieme to give free voice instruction to six Harding Middle School students. Each student will receive one 30 minute lesson each week, beginning the week of January 14th through the end of May. A recital will culminate the project.
South East Junior High School, Iowa City
Disco Intervention-Overt Ballroom at South East Junior High

At SEJH School, Habeas Corpus artists, Mark McCusker and Nora Garda, will lead Disco Intervention and Operation Overt Ballroom 14 times on 2 consecutive days on January and April '08 during PE and drama classes with this grant funding. In a funny homage to disco, students will discover basic rhythm skills while learning partner, line, and freestyle dances.
Upper Iowa University, Art Department, Fayette
Saturday Art Program

The Upper Iowa University Art Department Saturday Art Program will run four Saturdays in January and February of 2008. Children of north-east Iowa in grades 1 thru 6 will be served with this funding.
Town and Country Arts, Woodbine
Citizenship, Puppetry and 4-H

Grant funding will allow TCA to invite sixty Harrison County 4-H youngsters to the Arts Center,30 for each of two weekends, introducing them to unique theater- the Eulenspiegel Puppet Theater. Youngsters will participate in creating puppets and the performances in two areas pertinent for the times: Welcoming The Immigrants and Portraits of The Prairie.
