Fiscal Year 2007 / Mini Grants: September
The Iowa Arts Council received 20 eligible Mini grant applications for the 2006 September round. We received a total of $27,924 in requested funds. Of those, 6 were selected for funding, totaling $9,000 Out of a possible score of 44, the highest score of those selected for funding was 41 and the lowest at 35 .

Jane360 2nd Annual See Jane Make Art Exhibition

Funding will support Jane360, nine Des Moines artists, will exhibit new works at the Fitch Gallery in Des Moines, December 1 - 6, 2006. During the week, three Jane360 artists will present a gallery talk. Critique from local art professionals will be gathered about the exhibit. Jane360 will also develop a publication "How to Plan an Independent Exhibition," and present the information to area artists in January 2007.
Karin Stein, Kellogg
Completion of a Multilingual Children's Album

Funding will allow Karin Stein to edit, mix, master, and publish
a new CD containing 25 children's songs in English, Spanish, French, Quechua,
and German. The music has already been recorded but remains unpublished. The
new CD will be a sequel to the artist's previously released trilingual children's
CD, "Camaraca."
Chinese Association of Iowa, Clive
2006 Iowa Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival

Funding will allow the Chinese Association of Iowa to host a Mid-Autumn Festival on October 7, 2006 featuring a Chinese calligraphy show, illustrated folklore exhibition, traditional tea ceremony, and lion dance. Traditional art exhibitions will also be displayed during the festival week at the Des Moines University and Sams Club.

Santoor Performance in Des Moines by Pandit Ulhas Bapat

Santoor, a string instrument traditionally used in folk music of
Northern India and Persia, has acquired it's own status in Indian Classical/light
music. Funding for Pandit Bapat's Santoor concert in November 2006 in Des
Moines will provide a high quality art experience to all Iowans, reflecting
on our State's rich cultural diversity.
The Comedia Musica Players, Fort Dodge
The World Premiere of the Musical CARDIFF
$1,500
"In 1868 they buried a secret - one year later they dug up the greatest
American hoax of the 19th century." On Nov. 9-12, funding from the Iowa
Arts Council will allow Comedia Musica Players to present premiere performances
of CARDIFF, a musical comedy based on the famous Iowa Cardiff Giant tale,
featuring the music of Karl King and written by Iowan Deann Haden-Luke. Iowa
history transcends the textbook to become contemporary artistic culture.
