Fiscal Year 2007 / Mini Grants: November
The Iowa Arts Council received 13 eligible Mini grant applications for the 2006 November round. We received a total of $15,905 in requested funds. Of those, 7 were selected for funding, totaling $9,200 Out of a possible score of 44, the highest score of those selected for funding was 35.67 and the lowest at 31 .
MOC-Floyd Valley Middle School, Alton
MOC-FV Middle School-AIS

With this funding support, professional artist Bob Campagna will provide an opportunity for 6th-8th grade students at the MOC-FV Middle School to experience the joy and fulfillment of the art of photography. Prior to the residency students will research a nationality of their choosing. During the residency they will take pictures to support their research, and conclude by enveloping and matting their photos.
Neil Armstrong Elementary, Bettendorf
"Old to New, Past to Future: Neil Armstrong Elementary Mural Project"

Support is for Armstrong's 285 students to work with acclaimed potter, Sally Gierke, and Armstrong art teacher, Jennifer Timmerman, on a colorful 65' earthenware mural for our new building, opening in 2007. The project will involve other disciplines (e.g., guidance, math, history). Work will occur December-June.
LAMB Arts Ltd, Sioux City
ArtsConnect: The Diary of Anne Frank

Funding will allow LAMB Arts Ltd to bring Anne Frank's words to life for Siouxland's students in Wendy Kesselman's adaptation of The Diary of Anne Frank during two special performances at LAMB Theatre on Monday, February 5, 2007.
Included will be a number of educational outreach activities.
Horace Mann BASP, Iowa City
Horace Mann- Eulenspiegel Residency

The Horace Mann Before and After School Program (BASP) will use funding
to sponsor a 5 day Eulenspiegel Puppet Theater residency beginning in December.
The Horace Mann BASP serves kindergarten through sixth grade students enrolled
at Horace Mann School needing before and/or after school care.
Angela Hayes, Iowa City
Dance Connections

This project will fund a collaboration between Angela Hayes and Kathleen
Hurley of Hurley & Dancers to set a piece of choreography from Ms. Hayes'
repertory of 4 new dances to be performed at Iowa State University on December
3 and to be included in the Hurley & Dancers permanent repertory.
Mt Ayr Middle/High School, Mt Ayr
Integrating the Art of China into other studies

With this funding, High School students who are engaged in an integrated study of China and its impact on the world through the national Academic Decathlon program will enrich their understanding of China by viewing actual art from China at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. They will return and share their new insights with middle school and/or elementary students as an enrichment learning activity.

The Misses Pirie and Woods: A World Premiere Staged Reading

With support from this grant, on January 13, 2007, a staged reading of The
Misses Pirie and Woods, a new musical by Rebecca Burkhardt and Cynthia Goatley,
based on Scotch Verdict by Lillian Faderman, will be presented at the Strayer-Wood
Theatre, Cedar Falls, Iowa. The cast will include professionals and University
of Northern Iowa faculty and students.
