Fiscal Year 2007 / Mini Grants: December
The Iowa Arts Council received 19 eligible Mini grant applications for the 2006 December round.
We received a total of $23,330 in requested funds. Of those, 7 were selected for funding, totaling $9,460. Out of a possible score of 44, the highest score of those selected for funding was 37.33 and the lowest at 31.33.

Archive Original Compositions Inspired By Mississippi River

Funding facilitates Iowa artist's production of digital files and DVDs for
paintings inspired by the Mississippi River. Nancy Purington's compositions
articulate beauty/balance/harmony in nature with intention to inspire good
stewardship. Translation to 21st c. technology will expand media capability
to reach Iowa's multicultural audiences in art, society and beyond.

Black History Month Show

Funding is for a presentation during Black History Month on February
2, 2007. Songs and scenes from Black artists will be performed by myself,
Mary Brown, Felicia Mixon, George Boykin and several other members of the
Black community.
South East Junior High School, Iowa City
Disco Interventions at South East Jr. High

Disco Interventions teach Dance, Performance, and Self Confidence.
Conducted by Habeas Corpus' Directors, Nora Garda and Mark McCusker, during
PE and Drama classes, funding supports these workshops. The focus is on 1960's
Go-Go, 1970's Disco, and 1980's dances mixed with concert dance and a storyline
relating the evolution of dance forms from the 1900s to present.
Orange City Arts Council, Orange City
Termesphere Exhibit

The Orange City Arts Council and Northwestern College have partnered
to bring a gallery exhibit of "Termespheres" by Dick Termes to the
Orange City Community. Funding will allow these six-dimensional spheres to
be on display at the Northwestern College Korver Art Center from January 15
to February 15, 2007. The artist will also present informances at 2 area high
schools on January 16 & 17.
Mount Ayr Elementary School, Mount Ayr
5-Day Residency with Jacqueline Thompson

With this funding Dr. Jacqueline Thompson, a performing artist and
arts educator from Ottumwa will enhance our music, social studies, and language
arts curriculum with an opening assembly,"Freedom Isn't Free" on
March 12, 2006. During the residency, she will engage Mount Ayr Elementary
students with singing, dancing, learning history, and creating original poetry
and raps.
Cyndi Coyne, Iowa City
Ground Uncovered

Grand funding will allow Cyndi Coyne, singer songwriter, to spend
Jan.07-April 07 playing sessions in Minstrel Recording Studios and working
with music engineers on mixing tracks for this new CD. She will perform voice
and guitar. She will also be completing songs in progress to include.Betsy
Henry Fairfield Taking Time to Make Art $1,500 Funding supports Betsy Henry
to spend 4-5 afternoons per week making art over a four-month period, from
January 1 to April 30. Allowing her to produce a coherent body of work that
she can then market. She will have a show of the work in May at Revelations
Bookstore.
