Funding is for the Orange City Elementary School to bring in professional musician Joey Gulizia to work with K-5th grade students. Students will experience a wide variety of music by playing world rhythms on instruments from around the world. Students will have researched information about the countries for their International Fair.
Jane Ellen Gilmor, Cedar Rapids
Catalog Publication of Jane Gilmor’s Work

Funding will support the catalog publication of Jane Gilmor’s artwork. As a nationally-known Iowa artist, Gilmor is publishing a 12-page catalog in conjunction with her one-woman exhibit at A.I.R. Gallery in New York in the fall of 2005. This will be the first published catalog to include an essay by a noted New York critic and a selected survey of her work done primarily in Iowa over the past 30 years.
Western Iowa Tech Community College, Sioux City
Fund for Inspiration Visiting Artist and Scholars

The Fund for Inspiration event will include a performance and education residency of Blues artist and educator Diunna Greenleaf and the Blue Mercy Band. The event will take place at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. Funding will provide artists fees and travel expenses, marketing and production costs.

Alphabet Adventure with Scott Cleland

Actor, calligrapher, teacher and literary activist Scott Cleland will bring his Alphabet Adventure to the students at Longfellow Elementary School in Iowa City. Cleland will give an exciting performance teaching the history of writing and the development of the alphabet.

Jody Boyer and Russ Nordman Multidisciplinary Exhibit

This new work created by artists Jody Boyer and Russ Nordman includes a video installation and two-dimensional works that investigate landscape, memory and perception. Boyer and Nordman will also present a new series of two-dimensional work that combines 21st-century digital image-making with the ancient practice of encaustic painting. The work will be exhibited at the Farnham Gallery at Simpson College in Indianola, and at Wartburg Gallery at Wartburg College in Waverly.

Three Figure Paintings

Funding will help support visual artist Shannon Kennedy to create three 7- by 6-foot figure paintings in oil during a one-month residency at the Vermont Studio Center.

Book Mobile Project

The Book Mobile is an on-wheel exhibit of artist books. It will visit Iowa City at two different locations for a three-day exhibit with a public talk and a hands-on workshop. The Book Mobile Project emulates the tradition of bookmobile services in urban and rural communities as a space for the public viewing of books.
