Pastorela Navideña will be performed for the first time
by the Marshalltown Hispanic Dance Group. Pastorelas reenact different parts of
the Christmas story including Mary and Joseph’s search for lodging and the journey
of the shepherds and wise men.
Karin Stein, Kellogg
CD Production and Community Outreach

Karin Stein will produce a CD with upbeat Latin music which will appeal
to a broad range of Hispanics in Iowa, regardless of nationality, and non-Hispanics.
The CD will be released at two outreach concerts during a pre-holiday Hispanic
community event in Marshalltown.

Musica Antiqua/Madrigal Dinners

The Madrigal Dinners are a re-creation of an Elizabethan feast. The event
will include the performances of choral and instrumental music of the Renaissance
as well as dancing and theatrical presentations.

Ancient Vedic Classical Songs: A Western Revival

Ancient Vedic Classical Songs: A Western Revival is the title
of a CD that will be produced by Graciella Zogbi, a western vocal artist, researcher
and instructor of ancient Vedic classical music. Zogbi has produced one successful
CD and funding will support this second CD. Her plan is to produce six CDs of
these divine songs with texts and microtonal frequencies, which are more than
5,000 years old and preserved through oral tradition of Vedic India.
North Hill Elementary School, Burlington
The Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre Presents: Freedom Star

In a full school assembly the Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre, accompanied
by musician Ron Hillis, will present Freedom Star, a dramatic story of
a young girl who escaped on the Underground Railroad. All 3rd through 5th grade
students will participate in a one-hour shadow puppet workshop and a select group
of 5th grade students will attend a workshop on American music.
Mount Ayr Elementary School
Five-day Residency with Act!vated Storytellers

This residency will include expository writing, American Sign Language
(ASL), and performing arts workshops for various core groups. The opening assembly
and concluding student performance will feature Asian music and literature as
cultural enrichments for all students and the community.
Scattergood Friends School, West Branch
Disco Intervention (Operation Stealth Ballroom)
$1,500
Disco Intervention (Operation Stealth Ballroom) is a project that created
new choreography and improves dance programming at Scattergood School during drama
and physical education classes, weekend workshops and rehearsals. It includes
ballroom, disco, Latin and concert dance technique, theory and history. The artists,
Nora Garda Marcos and Mark McCusker, are trained in visual arts, ballet, modern,
jazz, tap, social dance, performance art and movement for performers.
