The Iowa Arts Council received 18 Mini Grant applications for the month of February, totaling $21,557 in funding requests. Of the 18 applications, eight were selected for a funding total of $8,465.

Historic Iowa: Inspiration for New Music
$1,200

Historic Iowa: Inspired a New Music composition by Harvey Sollberger. IAC rostered artists, Jan Boland and John Dowdall premiere this work and explore common vocabulary in the creative process with high school students in language, music and art classes at Jefferson High School in a 4-day residency.

Greenwood Cultural Festival

Greenwood Cultural Festival is a celebration of and opportunity to learn more about our diverse cultures, through the arts, dance, storytelling, music and ethnic foods. Khampeng, Tai Dam Dancers, Indian Dancers, Scottich Pipes, Dual and Isisserettes will be among the many featured artist. A real-life demonstration of Iowa's national leadership in cultural education.

Spiel 06: Esthie O-k'lie and the Hangman of Shushan

In this rendition of a traditional Jewish cultural art form, the story of Queen Esther is told through parody of American musical theatrical shows with American Old West themes. Author-director Laura Berkson leads an intergenerational cast, crew and band of over 50 people. Funding will support the rental of audio and lighting equipment for the production.

All Species Project, Decorah
All Species Project Workshop

Using local artist facilitators, the All species Project will sponsor and coordinate eleven workshops for youth and other community members in a variety of forms of pageantry arts. These may include masks and puppet making, totem headdress design, full creature costume design and construction, fabric costuming, percussion instrument building, improvisation and movement.

Breaking the Creative Barriers Art-Science Exhibit

Breaking the Creative Barriers exhibit is a collaborative work created by teams of Iowa State University artists and scientists. It reflects the unique ways artist interact with scientists including microbiologists, astrophysicists, mathematicians, psychologists, and soil food scientists. The exhibit showcases the artistic creations as well as posters summarizing the scientific research that informs each piece.

Spring Art Talks/Explorations

The Ottumwa Arts Council, in cooperation with the Ottumwa Public Library, will bring arts events in the form of lecture and demonstration to the library. Two events will target children while another is for adults.

Lincoln Academy of Integrated Arts, Davenport
Eulenspiegel Puppets Workshop

This project allows Lincoln staff and students to build long-term relationships with the Eulenspiegel performing artists. All Lincoln students will engage in workshops and or attend performances by the Eulenspiegel Puppet Team. A teacher workshop will be held after school on the second day of the residency to build sustainable skills for ongoing programs.

Prairie Ridge Elementary, Cedar Rapids
Six Day Residency with Deanne Warnholz Wortman

Deanne Warnholz Wortman will spend six days working with students at Prairie Ridge Elementary. The residency will result in the creation of a permanent wall mural. Students will learn about creating a mural and a focus group of fourth grade students will work with her to paint the mural.
