On May 5, 2006, the Perry community will celebrate Friday Fest: Latin Fiesta – Celebration of Cinco de Mayo from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the downtown area. Performing artists include: Calle Sur, Ignacio Anguiano-Reyes (Latin dance instructor) and Dave Moore. The celebration will also be highlighted by a Latin food fair.
Pella Shakespeare Festival

Believing that the actor’s creative path leads from body to voice to imagination, the Pella Shakespeare Company will engage the services of Iowa theatre professionals (including fight master Michael Sokoloff, choreographer Valerie Williams and vocal coach Ann Wilkinson) in a series of workshops open to local actors. The workshops are intended to expand performative presence and encourage ensemble creativity.
2006 Art in the Park

The Ottumwa Area Arts Council will sponsor an Art in the Park program featuring Fairfield artists Wendy Stegall June 19-23. During the residency, Stegall will teach Kathak, telling stories through the dances of North India. The program will primarily take place in local parks and a youth care site, culminating in a community performance on Friday.

DubuqueFest will be held May 19-21 and feature three local, high quality musical performers: ochOsol, James Kinds and the All Night Riders and the One Hat Band. Funding will also support children’s puppet performances by the Fever River Marionette Group as well as a director, promotion and advertising expenses.

The Salisbury House’s last season performance will be May 15and will feature the Des Moines Symphony Woodwind Quintet: Sandra Wacha on flute, Susan Odem on oboe, Joyce Wheeler on clarinet, Bret Seebeck on horn and Timothy Gale on bassoon. The “Northern Lights” themed event will feature Scandinavian composers.

Columbus Junction is planning a festival for May 6 celebrating the cultures of Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Chile, Guatemala, Argentina, Cuba, Colombia and Ecuador. Stage entertainment will include Ballet Folklorico of the Quad Cities, Orquesta Alto Maiz, Los Matachines, Valentin Ruiz and Techno Banda Clandestino.
