GCHS Drama Presents "Disney's Beauty and the Beast"

Grundy Center High School Drama is producing, performing and providing technical work (stage managing, sets, props, costumes, publicity) for the musical "Disney's Beauty and the Beast." Funds will be used to rent costumes, build technical elements, and publicize the show. Our goal is to increase arts education in Grundy Center.

 

University of Iowa Arts Share Program
Arts Share Teaching Artist Workshops

The Arts Share teaching Artist Workshops project is a new initiative offering teaching artist training and development to graduate artists in the Arts Share roster. Workshops will be taught by University of Iowa faculty artists, with topics including arts integration, marketing and business issues, building artist residencies, and more.

 

Cedar Rapids Public Library
Linn Area Reads

Offering programming to enhance the Linn Area Reads community read project. Native American-based book "Pigs in Heaven" was selected. The library will offer programs rooted in Native American tradition. Presenters include Redtale, an American Indian performance troupe and author LeAnne Howe, a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

 

Francis Marion Intermediate School
5 Day IASC Art Residency with Pam Dennis:From Roots to Wings

All students from Francis Marion Intermediate School will work under the direction of Iowa Arts Council artist, Pam Dennis in the creation of a large scale mixed media mural. Plants and animals if the tall grass prairie will serve as the inspiration for this project, titled "From Roots to Winds".

 

Central Iowa Circle of First Nations
Native American Regalia Workshop

This grant will help fund the publication of materials needed in making the Native American Powwow Regalia. Ultimately this will help Indians in urban areas to dance and participate in powwows and ceremonies thus helping to preserve some of the Native American Culture.

 

Tandem Theatre and Dance
Modern Dance Costume Project

Hurley and Dancers, a modern dance company in Des Moines, is creating new costumes for two new dance pieces by choreographers Shawn Womack (with eastern Iowa costume designer Erin Howell-Gritsch and Emily Fich (with costume designer Carolyn Hurley) for performances in the 2004-2005 repertoire and premiered Nov. 20.

 

Ainsworth Opera House A.C.T.
Musical Celebration of Artist Grant Wood

Musical Celebration of artist Grant Wood brings an interactive concert event to the rural community of Ainsworth, Iowa. Chamber music artists Jan Boland, John Dowdall and David Miller will bring a new musical work inspired by Grant Wood's visual art and the Iowa countryside to the Ainsworth Opera house. Boland and Dowdall are rostered Iowa artists and Miller is a guest artist from New Jersey. The event will attract concert-goers from five surrounding counties.

Communicative Arts Project

Communicative Arts Project with Michael Carey. This project will instruct, inspire and delight students in the communicative arts. Students will establish goals during assemblies followed by meetings with the artist to ring collaborative images together assisting students in creating poems. Poems will be formatted into a booklet for distribution. The artist will present a public reading of their works. Invitation will be extended to families and friends.
