African Fine Arts Fest

Oak Park Elementary will host three artist-in-residence on June 1-2 for an African
Arts Fest. Dr. Jacqueline Thompson will guide the students in folk dances and
creative movement, Fons Koster will bring her African drums to share, and Pam
Dennis will inspire the students to create works of art reflecting African culture.
Iowa Composers Forum, Cedar Rapids
New Iowa Concert Music Initiative

Funding will allow the Iowa Composers Forum to commission the New Iowa Concert
Music Initiative. It is a creation and performance of new concert music by Iowa
Composers and Performers. The forum had teamed with the Iowa Choral Directors
Association to commission this choral work from William Backlin and a chamber
work from Ralph Kendrick.
Muscatine County Arts Council, Muscatine
Muscatine Watermelon Jam

Muscatine Watermelon Jam is a gathering of Old Time and Bluegrass musicians. Held
in historic downtown Muscatine, Iowa, the event will include a stage show, open
mic stage, jam tents, children's activities, music, crafts, and food vendors.
It is free and open to the public.
Ottumwa Area Arts Council, Ottumwa
Art in the Park

Art in the Park will be sponsored by the Ottumwa Area Arts Council. The program
will feature Ottumwa artist Jacqueline Thompson, who will use fables and movement
to teach the Six Pillars of Character that are part of Character Counts!. The
program will take place primarily in the local parks and a youth care site, and
will culminate in a community performance of Friday during Lunch in the Park.

Mediterranean Festival

The Mediterranean Festival, now in its 5th year, is a unique cultural offering
that provides Iowans with the opportunity to experience the cultures of the Eastern
Mediterranean region through food, music, dance and art. Funding will help cover
the costs of one of the performing groups at the festival and a portion of the
advertising.

CD of Original Music

Bill Bryant will record and manufacture a CD of 12 original songs. Funding will
help in the production costs of the CD. The CD will be made available for sale
through performances in Iowa communities and through the Internet.

Arts On The Go 2005

Arts On The Go 2005 sends Iowa artist fro a variety of disciplines to present
performance and do hands-on arts and literacy activities to children ages 5-12
at locations around greater Des Moines and Polk county. Artist are selected through
a juried application process. All activities are free to the public.

AIE with Pricilla Hallberg and Janet Bradford

Pricilla Hallberg, violinist, and Janet Bradford, pianist, will play excerpts
from a program of French virtuoso music from the Romantic and Impressionist periods
for an audience of students. The program will include excerpts by Caesar Franck,
Claude Debussy, Ernest Chausson and Camille Saint-Saens. They will talk to the
students about the music and the process involved with becoming a musician and
some of the aspects of playing this type of music.

effort in Wright County to promote local food development. Local musicians, food
demonstrations, information displays, youth activities, and an all local lunch

Youth Theater Production of The Hobbit

The award winning Stebens Children's Theater of Mason City is partnering with
the Clear Lake Arts Center to offer a month-long educational theatrical experience
for 45 youth, ages 7-18 resulting in a production of the classic Tolkien play,The
Hobbit. Funding will help sponsor the children's Theater residency.
