The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra (NISO) with Iowa Arts Council support for artist fees, presents James Buswell, violin, and Carol Ou, cello, in concert April 26, 2005. These artist-educators, based at the New England Conservatory of Music, will extend both NISOs concert season and its educational mission.

Community organizations will provide musician fees for educational visits, concerts and the recorder workshop. There are many donations in time, lodging, and media promotion for our project. We are asking the IAC to provide essential funding by helping with the musicians' travel expenses from Italy to Iowa.

Arts Infusion Workshops for Teachers

Arts Infusion Workshops for Teachers is a one day pilot workshop for classroom teachers in which visual artist Ralph Laccarino, Language arts Specialist, Bruce Bufe and Dancer, Jennifer O'Neil will conduct arts-across-the-curriculum methodologies and kit-building, with emphasis on language, visual and performing arts aimed at supporting literacy standards.

 

Pella Shakespeare Festival, Pella
Pella Shakespeare Festival 2005

Pella Shakespeare Festival 2005 will provide more levels of artistic growth and educational opportunities surrounding the production of a Shakespeare play. The performances for cast and audience will be enriched by engaging vocal coach Ann Wilkinson in residency. Noted Shakespeare scholar Dr. Walter Cannon will engage the audience in conversations about the play, historical period and language of Shakespeare.


Kenneth Bichell, Dubuque
Wood Kiln Firing

$1,500.00
Ken Bichell will fire a wood fired kiln in preparation for a series of international expositions and symposiums. IAC funding will cover the expenses of the firing process including firewood kiln rental and payments to assisting artists Julie Miller, Tom Kean, Bruce Brillhart, Tony Fernandez and Gary Carstens.

Students Lake City History Project

Singer/songwriter James Hersch will spend a week as artist-in-residence at the Southern Cal Elementary Schools, working with students to write, perform and record songs celebrating the upcoming sesquicentennial of Lake City, Iowa.
