The Iowa Arts Council Grant Panel met November 13, 2003 in the offices of the Nebraska Arts Council to review applications submitted by the October 1, 2003 deadline.

On Dec. 5, 2003, the IAC board of directors reviewed panel recommendations and approved final funding amounts recommended by the IAC executive director.

Description: Fax Gilbert will present a 2-week residency to the 4th and 5th grade
students in the Algona Community School District. The students experience the
art of mime using cooperative learning, music and physical education standards,
building self-esteem and an appreciation for the blending of music, physical education
and character education.

Title: Siemon Allen: Imaging South Africa
Siemon Allen is a major talent to emerge from the post-apartheid art scene. His

will be built in collaboration with students and will be accompanied by public
programs.

photo exhibit ( a TAG project).

Title: Rome or Bust: A 10-Day Polk Elementary School Residency
The Cedar Rapids Schools will host a two-week chamber music residency focusing
on classical music inspired by Roman artifacts and Italian culture. The project
reaches 380 students at Polk Elementary. The core group consists of students in
grades 3-5. The residency hires artists from the IAC Arts in Ed. Roster, Jan Boland
and John Dowdall.

for possible inclusion in the murals.

Description: Marc Wooldridge will work with Plymouth Manor Care Center residents

and present a recital at the Le Mars Art Center, exposing both the general public
and elderly population to different music and composition techniques.

Title: String Education Community Residencies
Ten day-long residencies performed by the Euclid Quartet in schools and communities
throughout Iowa. The residencies will include formal concerts, student recruitment
concerts for school string programs, master classes and teacher training. Community
concerts will benefit school string programs, raising awareness of string education
and raising funds for music, equipment, and program expenses. The project serves
to assist Iowa string teachers in developing the quality of, and enrollment in,
local school string programs.
