Creation of a significant body of new work and/or explorations of new approaches and directions in an artist's work.

Activities that promote passing living traditions from one generation to the next.

Activities that increase appreciation among diverse groups and individuals.

The creation or substantial expansion of an arts-related project, program, or event.

Improving leadership and managerial abilities of Iowa artists and arts-related organizations, businesses, presenters and venues.

Showcases that promote Iowa artists and performing groups to booking agents and others who want to hire or schedule artists for their organization, business, event or venue.

Activities that show a clear learning experience for students, connected to the curricular goals of the school, and with appropriate plans for assessment of learning.

Activities that develop or advance collaborative partnerships between one or more school(s) and one or more arts organization(s) or individual artist(s).

Activities that model or share best practices in arts education among educators.

The IAC Does Not Fund:

• Projects without a clear and strong arts component

• Expenses that occur prior to or after the project dates

• Fund raisers, benefits, prizes, and projects for which resulting earned income will be donated to a cause or organization

• Lobbying activities

• Deficit and debt reduction

• Projects or activities presented in the context of a religious service or event

• Any activities in which the participant receives course credit, a degree, teacher certification, etc.

• Activities that already receive financial support from other Iowa Arts Council, Department of Cultural Affairs or State Historical Society of Iowa granting programs (unless this is a distinct and successive phase of a multiphase project)

• For individual artist applications: Projects, exhibitions or events for which an organization should be seeking the funding, rather than the individual artist. For instance, projects initiated or managed by an organization, or projects in which an organization has invited or selected the artist to participate.

• General operating expenses, including salaries - Exceptions: for organization applicants (including schools), project staff salaries may be used as match; for individual artist applications, the artist's salary may be part of the request
