Community Music Development
The 2005 Iowa Legislature provided funds for the Iowa Arts Council to award two one-time grants of $12,500 each, to nonprofit music entities in Iowa during fiscal year 2006. The goal of the Community Music Development program is to build capacity in order to cultivate and sustain the unique, authentic qualities of the local music scene and to boost the local independent music industry.
Eligible Applicants
Iowa nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations that:
• Have membership that includes local musicians, music promoters, representatives
of music venues and businesses, community leaders, and live music enthusiasts
• Are dedicated to implementing a unified music agenda for the local community
• Advocate, sponsor, and/or work to develop an independent, progressive
live music economy in a local community
Proposal Deadline and Content
Proposals are due by 4:30 p.m. August 1, 2005. This is not a postmark deadline.
There is no application form. Proposals should include the following:
• A completed Proposal
Cover Page Form
• The organization’s vision and/or mission statement, and measurable
results to be accomplished with grant funds during the grant period (August 31,
2005 – June 30, 2006)
• A brief description or listing of the organization’s membership
and its activities to date in working to implement a unified music agenda for
the local community
• A summary of financial support and other resources that exist for the
project
• A budget that describes proposed grant expenditures
• A completed and signed Iowa Arts Council Service Contract (included in

Form document)
Grantee Responsibilities
The two organizations receiving these grants will be required to submit a final report by July 31, 2006, detailing expenditure of grant funds and results achieved.
