The Iowa Arts Council Artist in Schools & Communities (AISC) Residency Major Grant and Mini Grant helps to bring professional teaching artists into Iowa’s schools and communities.
Students benefit from AISC residencies because they can:
- Experience the creative process in new and dynamic ways.
- Make new interdisciplinary connections using multiple learning styles.
- Be critical and visionary thinkers.
- Grow in confidence, self-esteem and appreciation of their own and other students’ talents and abilities.
- Discover how a professional artist works.
Teachers benefit from AISC residencies because they can:
- Enhance their existing curriculum with the energy and perspective of a professional artist.
- Discover new approaches to meeting student learning needs.
- Observe and participate with their students in a creative process.
The Model
Professional artists are at the core of this program. The Artists in Schools & Communities Residency Model is designed to provide students an in-depth experience with professional teaching artists. Residencies may involve one artist, an artist company, or several artists working in different disciplines.
Sponsors must:
- Link here to the Iowa Artist Directory and Rosters, then scroll down and "Search by Publication", then select Teaching Artists Roster.
- Use the current AISC Residency Model when planning and implementing the residency.
Grant Amount
You may request up to $10,000 for a Major Grant or up to $1,500 for a Mini Grant, but no more than 50 percent of the total expenses of the project.
