BuyIowaArt.Com is an on-line store featuring works of art, CDs, furniture, pottery, books, and other artist-related products created by Iowa’s literary artists, performing artists, visual and craft artists, photographers, designers and traditional artists. All the artists and groups featured on BuyIowaArt.com have been selected by our advisory review panel of arts professionals from around the state.

BuyIowaArt.com strives to represent the wide range of art being produced in Iowa to the rest of the world. BuyIowaArt.com is operated by the Iowa Arts Council. A small percentage of each sale is reinvested into the maintenance and marketing of the site.

Products featured on the site are separated into eight categories (Crafts, Books, Music, Photography, Traditional Arts, Visual Arts, Type or Theme, and Special Collections). We reserve determine the appropriateness of products for each category.

Both artists and artist agents can apply to feature products on the site. If you are an agent (e.g., an individual agent, gallery, record label, publisher, etc.) you must submit application forms for each of the artists you wish to represent on BuyIowaArt.com. Agent information will automatically be added to the appropriate Iowa Art’s Council’s organization directory.

Eligibility:

• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and not a student.
• Applicants must have an active email address and respond to emails in a timely manner.
• Artists must live in Iowa or demonstrate an Iowa connection.
• Artists must be registered in the Iowa Arts Council’s Directory of Iowa Artists and Performing Groups (for Iowa artists only).
• Traditional artists must also be represented in the IAC's Iowa Folklife Resource Directory before registering in the Artist Directory.
• Agents of eligible artists may submit an application on behalf of an artist and/or sponsor products as long as the artist approves it.
• Agents may only sponsor products that are in their possession.

The Process:

The application process for BuyIowaArt.com takes approximately three months (the advisory panel reviews applications bi-monthly) from the date your application is received. Once accepted, it will be up to you to add products in a timely manner—we will not monitor this or give a deadline.

Responsibilities of artists/agents:

• Create Artist/Agent Profile for the web site
• Upload image/sound files (get instructions - PDF document)
• Fill orders and ship within 24 hours
• Respond to emails in a timely manner
• Maintain up to date contact information

Review Criteria:

The advisory panel will review applicants based on the following:

• Artistic excellence of products
• Originality and uniqueness of products
• Craftsmanship of products
• Marketability of the products in an on-line arts commerce site
• Quality of image, sound files, etc.

Folk and Traditional Artists: Application to the Folklife Resource Directory and registration in the Directory of Iowa Artists and Performing Groups

3. Four electronic work samples of products characteristic of what you want to feature

Instructions on how submit the application form and electronic work samples are included in the application form.

Notification:

When your application has been reviewed, you will be notified by email of the advisory panel’s decision. If you are accepted, you will be provided with a login ID, password and instructions for adding information to the site.
