Mission of the Iowa Arts Council
The MISSION of the Iowa Arts Council is to enrich the quality of life for Iowans through support of the arts.
The VISION of the Iowa Arts Council is that Iowans recognize the arts are essential to their quality of life.
Structure
The Executive Director of the Iowa Arts Council also serves as the director of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. The Executive Director is appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. The Executive Director has final authority on all decisions of the agency.
The Iowa Arts Council has a 15-member advisory board appointed by the Governor. The board volunteers its time to provide citizen input and counsel to the Iowa Arts Council staff. The Governor selects board members for their knowledge, appreciation, and/or support of the arts and cultural heritage of Iowa. The primary responsibility of board members is to promote policies and viewpoints that benefit the arts throughout the state.
Funding
for the Iowa Arts Council and its programs is provided by the State
of Iowa and the National Endowment
for the Arts, a federal agency.
